Nature supports many of the activities and lives of human beings. The resources and services it provides are very important for our present and future well-being, economic and social development. These goods and services are known as ecosystem services. The forest is one of the most relevant providers of ecosystem services, but the current increase in the pressures to which they are subjected, whether caused by changes in land use or climate change, make it of particular interest to know its evolution Forests are systems that produce raw materials (wood, firewood, cork...), mushrooms, pine nuts, and provide environmental services such as CO2 fixation, air quality improvement, water regulation or conservation of biodiversity. Therefore, this indicator makes it possible to know what the evolution of the area is covered by forests, thickets, meadows, grasslands and bare forest soil with respect to the totality of the land cover of a municipality, a county or the province of Girona.
