Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI)
Millora
Green space is associated with several health benefits, including lower premature mortality, longer life expectancy, fewer mental health problems, less cardiovascular disease, better cognitive functioning in children and the elderly. It also helps to mitigate air pollution, heat and noise levels, contributes to CO2 sequestration and provides opportunities for physical activity and social interaction.
The Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) is an indicator that provides an approximation of the presence or absence of green spaces, which measures how green an area is by providing information on the state and quantity of the vegetation present and its evolution over time.
Their values vary from 0 to 1, where 1 is the optimal value. Negative values are associated with areas of water and snow. Positive values close to 0 represent rocky areas that can acquire a minimal presence of vegetation until reaching values close to 0.3. From this value we find the presence of vegetation. The higher the value, the leafier the vegetation until acquiring values close to 1.
