Registrations of electrified and hybrid vehicles

Europe has developed a long-term decarbonization plan that sets 2035 as the deadline for marketing new vehicles powered by fossil fuels. Although this objective remains officially in force, as of October 2025 it is undergoing an early review, with an open debate on the feasibility of the timelines and the need for greater technological flexibility to allow other alternatives such as synthetic fuels or plug-in hybrids. In this European context and with the goal of decarbonizing the economy before 2050, the Spanish state approved Law 7/2021 of May 20 on climate change and energy transition, which remains fully in force and establishes the regulatory framework for the transition to more sustainable mobility.

The indicator of registrations of electrified and hybrid vehicles by municipality is a fundamental tool for evaluating the evolution of this transition in the municipalities of the Girona region. It allows measuring the degree of penetration of new propulsion technologies, identifying territorial differences in the adoption of cleaner vehicles, and assessing the effectiveness of public policies promoting sustainable mobility.
