Water prices

The supply of drinking water (management, distribution and purchase of water), sewerage and waste water treatment are municipal competences, and it is each municipality that establishes the supply tariff and the sewerage fee. The water fee, a concept included in the price of water, on the other hand, is of regional scope and is the same for the entire Catalan territory. The price of water has a great social sensitivity and is different in each of the municipalities. Therefore, each municipality establishes the rates and fees according to the costs incurred by the activity. The water supply tariff is an instrument of municipal economic policy for the financing of the service, because the different values ​​that apply to the different types and sections of consumption include political objectives, such as ensuring access to water or encourage savings. Demographic characteristics, topography, resource availability, population density, seasonality of consumption, among others, end up determining this cost. So, this indicator is a context indicator that allows you to know the evolution of the price of water (€/m3) in each of the municipalities of the demarcation.
